PROJECT DESCRIPTION | A sedentary lifestyle in old age increases the risk of chronic diseases, premature mortality, and economic burden. In contrast, physical activity (PA) can counteract aging effects and reduce inactivity-related costs. However, exercise regimens are not universally effective, and individual responses to PA vary. Therefore, tailored exercise programs for diverse aging populations are needed.
To achieve this, evidence-based medicine (EBM) should be embraced to identify challenges in aging and PA research. Key gaps include a lack of consolidated research for designing effective programs, exclusion of disadvantaged older adults from studies, limited long-term real-world studies, and underutilization of technological innovations. The COST Action PhysAgeNet aims to create a sustainable network to support evidence-based PA research and integrate innovative ICT solutions, improving health outcomes and reducing inactivity-related burdens in aging populations. |
