Methodology of Sports and Exercise Training

Head Assoc. Prof. Dr. Diana Rėklaitienė

LSU strategicresearch area Methodology of Sports and Exercise Training encompasses various aspects of training management of athletes of different age groups, physical fitness and sports. The research will focus on the following issues:control of athlete training process and monitoring of functional state; indices of physical fitness and technology of the improvement of technical tricks; optimization of special and technical training;modelling of training technology; diagnosis and prevention of injury risk factors; effectiveness of health promotion programmes;effect of nutrition and food supplementation on sports performance. With the possibility to use the latest technology in sports science, not only a deeper and more precise study on individual parameters of athlete functional state has become possible, but also a more complex integrated research, determining sport performance, such asperception, memory, learning scope, decision-making mechanisms and their effect on motor control of the nervous system, which predetermine coordinate complex movements and form skills. Moreover, new areas of research will be related to the prediction of athlete performance (perception, insights and decision-making) (Vickers, 2010).  Using different research methods, the scientists of the strategic research group will examine training models of athletes of varied age groups, physical fitness andvarious sports (team (basketball, handball, volleyball, football), endurance cyclical (cycling, orienteering, rowing, swimming), double events (judo, boxing), individual (track and field athletics)) in various aspects.
