ACQUISITION AND CATALOGING GROUP (2nd floor)

Publications are acquired with the fields of LSU studies and research in mind, as well as the needs of the academic community.

All the library’s processes (acquisition, cataloguing, user service, information retrieval and presentation, statistics) are automated, all the modules of the library system Aleph 500 are in operation.

Since 1999, the library’s electronic catalogue has been running on the basis of the integrated library system Aleph 500 (Israeli company Ex Libris). This library information system replaced the previous automated system CICERO.

The University’s database of scientific publications has been under development since 2001; and the database of theses and dissertations since 2007.

The Lithuanian Academic Electronic Library eLABa was launched in 2015.

Functions of the group:

Selection and ordering of books, periodicals, and other documents published in Lithuania and abroad.

Selection and acceptance of publications donated to the library by private individuals, organisations, and various foundations.

Managing, preparing, and distributing publications to library departments.

Providing information on newly acquired publications to the University community.

Retrospective management of publications (the electronic catalogue is constantly updated with publications from previous years).

Registration of LSU scientific publications, preparation of reports and bibliographic lists.

Provision of statistical information for the evaluation of the University’s scientific output.
