The content of a strategic research area “Management and Economics of Sports Industry” describes the assumptions that facilitate to explore sports, tourism and leisure trends in our society,as these services are becoming increasingly popular in Lithuania andcan have a substantial impact on local, regional, national and global economy. Moreover, as research suggests, high-quality recreational and leisure services provide adequate opportunities for improvement for people of all age groups, as they become much healthier and prefer a much more active lifestyle. Finally, there is a need to properly focus on the growth of the quality of recreational and leisure services, as well as the analysis and accumulation of experience in provision of such services in the context of dramatic demographic changes in the country and the growing demand for the services.

Policy facilitators of these services, managers, as well as communities are in demand ofscientifically based activity justification and strategies to develop and improve the services.The content of the strategic research area shows and explains essential directions in scientific research as well as improvement of the study programmes“Sport Recreation and Tourism”, “Sports Industries” and “Tourism and Sports Management”. In addition, this strategic research area creates appropriate conditions for maintenance or development of national recreation and leisure research programmes as well as promotionof co-operation betweenindividual programmes (related to health fortification, socialization of the disabled or inculcation of skills of healthy lifestyle, etc.)
