Health enhancing physical activity and education through sport

Head Prof. Dr. Saulius Šukys

International relevance and originality of the research area are based on the fact that it is difficult to assess the changes of physical activity in population due to lack of research in this area. Health promotion issues as well as generational health issues have been paid insufficient attention.

While examining health-related behaviour, theresearch explaining the reasons for such behaviour is relevant. It is important to ascertain motivation factors, explaining why some people engage in health-related behaviour (PA),while other behaviour, despite the existing knowledge, is inconsistentwith the behaviour, favourable to health. These factors contribute to creating intervention programmes that directly affect the causal factors of behaviour change and strengthen health. The research on students’ physical education actualizesthe content analysis of physical education lessons and implementation of new science-based forms of physical education in schools. The relevance of research on personality education through sport is based on special attention to values in modern education theory. Therefore, it is important to examine the issues of social responsibility development in the context of physical education and sport, as well as the expressionof social competence and social skills of those who go in for sports.Research, that addresses coach competence to develop provisions of noble sport competition, related to athlete behaviour and values are relevant in the context of value development. The relevance of research on both physical activity and education through sport is based on insufficient revelation of parent / family rolein the promotion of children’s physical activity. Moreover, the significance of parental involvement in children’s sporting activities and their influence on young athletes’ sporting career are inadequately disclosed.
