The University hosted the first meeting of “Nordplus Horizontal” project “Nordic-Baltic Physical Activity Bridges”

The first coordinating meeting of Nordplus Horizontal project “Nordic-Baltic Physical Activity Bridges” ((NBPAB) NPHZ-2014/10107) took place at LSU. The project will last for three years.

The aim of the project is to develop and strengthen the Nordic-Baltic partnership and stimulate health-promoting physical activity among people of all ages. The project seeks to combine various sectors responsible for physical activity education in schools, higher education institutions, professional associations, centres and communities.

The delegates from higher education institutions, secondary schools, associations, communities and municipalities of Estonia, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway and Finland as well as the representatives of the National Olympic Committee of Lithuania attended the meeting. The project participants had an opportunity to compare physical education (physical activity, sport) systems in different countries, share best experiences related to the promotion of physical activity and cooperation with communities. Moreover, the guidelines for the development of a common network, cooperation possibilities and ideas for the creation of a new study module/ intensive programme were discussed.

It is expected that Nordic-Baltic physical activity teachers, heads of centres, associations and communities will develop a cooperation network through the project. In addition, they will improve study programmes through international experience and will assist in strengthening physical activity in kindergartens, schools and communities.
