The University celebrated the 80th anniversary

Lithuanian Sports University celebrated its 80th anniversary. For this occasion, different events took place since early morning. One of the most outstanding events to be mentioned was the opening of the lecture hall named after the Rector of the University Professor Stanislovas Stonkus, followed by a scientific conference dedicated to the memory of Dr. Antanas Jurgelionis. Later on, a press conference took place attended by LSU alumni: Vice-President of the Seimas Vydas Gedvilas, honoured country's basketball coach Vladas Garastas, the Olympic vice-champion Austra Skujytė and the Rector Prof. Habil. Dr. Albertas Skurvydas.

A solemn celebration was held in the University hall. The LSU community was congratulated by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Lithuania Algirdas Butkevičius, Vice-President of the Seimas Vydas Gedvilas, the Mayor of Kaunas city Andrius Kupčinskas, General Director of the Department of Physical Education and Sports Edis Urbanavičius, the delegates of the Ministry of Education and Science and National Olympic Committee of Lithuania, the rectors of different universities, social partners and the LSU community.

  The most prominent University graduates were presented with LSU Gold Plaques. The company of LSU girls and Folk Dance ensemble “Rasa” showed a festive programme at the celebration.
