The first LSU representatives’ visit to Beijing Sport University under “Erasmus+” programme

Lithuanian Sports University is successfully implementing the “Erasmus+” programme activities “Higher Education Student and Staff Mobility between Programme and Partner Countries”.

On 9—13 May, the Head of the Department of Coaching Science Diana Rėklaitienė and the Head of the International Relations Office Irena Čikotienė visited Beijing Sport University. It was the first LSU representatives’ visit outside Europe under the programme “Erasmus+” with the aim to implement the Erasmus teacher / student mobility activities and to clarify and concert the details of a visiting student and a teacher from China coming to our university in the autumn semester of 2016-2017. The student of Adapted Physical Activity is coming to LSU for one semester and the lecturer from Beijing Sport University is going to teach our students Chinese massage and conduct theoretical and practical sessions.

LSU representatives visited the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania. Lithuanian ambassador Ina Marčiulionytė organized a meeting with the representatives of Chinese institutions of higher education and the members of the Ministry of Education and the European Commission “Erasmus+” Committee. According to Lithuanian ambassador, the Chinese government has been recently appointing significant funding for arts and sport. Therefore, we attracted a lot of attention from agents and various associations for cooperation and especially basketball promotion. After signing a bilateral cooperation agreement between Lithuanian and Chinese Ministries of Education, Chinese government allocated significant funding for students to study in foreign universities.

The main activity was to discuss further stages and opportunities of cooperation with Beijing Sports University. We met with the director of the study programme Adapted Physical Activity, who supported the idea of developing a joint Adapted Physical Activity programme with LSU. One of the main goals of cooperation with LSU is to exchange basketball specialists and invite LSU basketball teachers to deliver lectures at Beijing Sport University, because there is a lack of these specialists there. We received a proposal to consider the development of a joint basketball programme and the opportunity to exchange students. LSU PhD students were proposed to use modern equipment in the Research Centre and carry out joint research.

If the Education Exchanges Support Foundation evaluates the application “Higher Education Student and Staff Mobility between Programme and Partner Countries” of “Erasmus+” programme positively, one LSU student and some teachers will have an opportunity to study and deliver lectures at Beijing Sport University in the academic year of 2016—2017, and the representatives of China will come to LSU.
