The Chairman of the Standards Council of the European Health and Fitness Association Prof. Thomas Rieger will be visiting the University

The Chairman of the Standards Council of the European Health and Fitness Association Prof. Thomas Rieger will be visiting Lithuanian Sports University on 2 October. He will deliver a lecture “Employability of Sport Science Graduate in the European Fitness Industry” on 2 October, 2.00 p.m., Room 218 (Central Building). The lecture will take 30 – 45 minutes and will be followed by a debate with the participants of the event.

Thomas Rieger has been the Chairman of the Standards Council of the European Health and Fitness Association since 2012. The European Health and Fitness Association, currently known as "Europe Active”, was established in 1996. This is a non-profit organization with a strong voice in all the main European Union institutions when it comes to the European sports and wellness sector. The principal mission of the Association is to change the prevailing passive lifestyles into active so that more people would be more physically active. The organization promotes cooperation of a variety of health promotion-related structures and innovation, develops and installs professional standards for health practitioners.

Professor Dr. Thomas Rieger is the Chairman of the Standards Council. He holds a Doctoral Degree in Social Sciences with a specialization in Sport Science (German PhD-equivalent) from the University of Tübingen and a Master Degree in Public Health. In 2007 he was appointed as a Professor of Sport Management at the Business and Information Technology School – BiTS (Laureate International Universities).
At BiTS University he is leader of the Bachelor Programme in Sport & Event Management and the Master Programme International Sport & Event Management. He served as Visiting Professor at the Universidad Europea de Madrid and the European University Cyprus in Nicosia.
In 2003 he received the distinguished AOK Award from the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Bielefeld for his excellent achievements in Health Sciences. Before entering academia in 2006 he gained more than six years of work experience in the fitness industry, especially in the fields of fitness marketing and quality management
