Professor Mati Paasuke has been awarded LSU honorary doctoral degree

    On 28 September, the Senate of Lithuanian Sports University (LSU) took a decision to award Professor Mati Paasuke (Institute of Sport Sciences and Physiotherapy, University of Tartu) an Honorary Doctoral degree.  

   Professor M. Paasuke has been collaborating with LSU for many years. He initiated an ongoing close cooperation between the scientists working at LSU and the University of Tartu. The Professor actively participated in the development and implementation of joint doctoral studies in the area of Biology. M. Paasuke continuously promotes cooperation between the Baltic scientists. Since 2010, the Professor has been the member of the Council of Lithuanian Sports University.

   M. Paasuke graduated from the University of Tartu in 1976 and defended his doctoral thesis there as well. His main research interest is the properties of skeletal muscle contraction. M. Paasuke teaches kinesiology, human psychology, motor system management, exercise physiology and functional anatomy; he is the author of as many as 100 international scientific articles and 5 books. The Professor has been a scientific supervisor to more than 10 doctoral dissertations.

   M. Paasuke is a member of Estonian Physiological Society, International Society of Biomechanics and International Society of Biomechanics in Sport; he is a member of International Physical Activity and Health Promotion Researchers Board, Vice-President of the Baltic Sport Science Society and a member of Estonian Olympic Academy.  

   As a visiting lecturer, Prof. M. Pääsuke has delivered lectures to university students in Spain, Lithuania, Russia, Finland and Turkey.

 

  The inauguration ceremony of LSU Honorary Doctor Prof. Mati Paasuke will be held on 10 January, 2017, at 11 a.m., Room 215 (LSU Central Building).
