New LSU Basketball Laboratory funded by one of the world’s largest construction companies

At the beginning of October, Lithuanian Sports University will open a Basketball Laboratory, which will undoubtedly influence the development of basketball in Lithuania and abroad. In the Laboratory, experienced basketball specialists from the University and other countries will carry out research, create systems for analysis of competitive activities and new training methods. Future professionals of this sport and members of the Lithuanian Association of Basketball Coaches will be able to use the video library containing material on basketball research.

LSU has an exclusive opportunity to improve training of basketball professionals as one of the 250 largest construction companies in the world – KAYI Construction from Turkey has become a social partner of the University. It is financing the equipment of the unique Basketball Laboratory at LSU.

“This is a very timely partnership, because in recent years Turkey has been extremely progressing as a country of basketball. Most international basketball events take place here. In addition, the Turks are the champions of the Euroleague, who delegate the biggest number of teams to the league. Almost all major basketball supporters are from Turkey. Therefore, we are glad that a famous Turkish construction company expressed a wish to promote basketball development in Lithuania together with LSU. KAYI Construction will finance the equipment of LSU Basketball Laboratory and the Women's and Men's Basketball teams of the University”, said Vice Rector for Development and Sport Dr. Mindaugas Balčiūnas.

LSU, as the only specialized sports university in the country, is the most active university in sports and health promotion. Thus, new LSU sport initiatives, in particular the improvement of training future basketball coaches, are drawing more and more attention from international organizations.

“We have been successfully cooperating with the National Basketball Association (NBA) as well as other Lithuanian and foreign basketball clubs and leagues for several years. This partnership gives students a chance to get to know European and world basketball organizations, the best clubs and their activities”, said LSU Vice Rector M. Balčiūnas.
