LSU Erasmus students acted as swimming officials

Five LSU Erasmus students Winkel Johannes Till, Kettler Moritz Parak, Jan Brandt, Sarah Wahlstrom and Kari Tapani study the module “Sports Coaching of Selected Sports (basics) – Swimming”. In this course the students learn swimming theory, swimming technique, water pool hygiene, swimming teaching didactics, the specificity of swimming training in Lithuania and the world, saving techniques of drowning people and the fundamentals of first aid. One of the most interesting opportunities of the course is acting as swimming officials. Erasmus students used this opportunity in the competition of the best 8—10 year-old swimmers at the refurbished Kaunas Centre Sport School.

The chief official Jolanta Dulevičienė trusted the students to act as time scorers. The task is rather complicated because the official must at the same time follow the chronometer, the start official and the athlete at the start point.

The competition lasted more than two hours. Afterwards LSU Erasmus students were praised for excellent job. Although the students felt quite exhausted after the competition, they enjoyed watching how small children swim and learned how swimming competitions are organised and conducted. During this event students had the opportunity to acquaint with the best swimming coaches in Kaunas.

Kaunas Centre Sport School deputy director A. Karalius was happy that the students were non-biased and very objective officials. The performance of the student from Finland Kari Tapani was acknowledged as the best for his ability to solve all disputable situations smartly
