Last weekend, one of the largest student sports events in the Baltic States – the XLI (41st) SELL Games – came to an end. This year, the event brought together not only students from Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania, but also participants from other countries. The Games took place in Riga, Latvia, on May 22–24.
Representatives of Lithuanian Sports University (LSU) delivered an outstanding performance, winning a total of 29 medals: 14 gold, 6 silver, and 9 bronze.
This year, Lithuanian Sports University was represented by a delegation of 82 athletes and coaches.
LSU students competed in athletics, swimming, table tennis, football (men), judo, volleyball (men), beach volleyball, and 3×3 basketball (men). For the first time in SELL Games history, representatives of chess and badminton also took part.
Last year, the LSU delegation returned from the Games held in Vierumäki, Finland, with 20 medals (10 gold, 4 silver, and 6 bronze).
The SELL Student Games are annual multi-sport games involving students from Finland, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. The Games were first organized in 1923 and were held until the outbreak of the Second World War. They were revived only in 1998.
