Lithuanian Sports University is a step away from the right to organize European College of Sport Science Congress in 2022

At the beginning of July, the capital of Ireland Dublin hosted the 23rd Annual Congress of the European College of Sports Science (ECSS). The Lithuanian delegation – Lithuanian Sports University (LSU) Acting Vice-Rector for Development and Sport Vidas Bružas, Prof. Arvydas Stasiulis and representative of Vilnius tourism and business development agency “Go Vilnius” Vita Žilinskaitė – participated in the event and met with the leaders of the organization.

It was confirmed that LSU together with Lithuania EXPO Centre and “Go Vilnius” are the main contenders to organize a congress of this authoritative sport science organization in Vilnius in 2022. This November, the ECSS delegation will arrive in Vilnius, where the organizational details of the event will be refined. The final decision will be taken by the College in January 2019.

“The Annual ECSS Congress is one of the most prestigious and largest sport science events in the world, where scientists from sport science institutions in Europe and other continents share their experience. This year, the Congress hosted 2,900 scientists from all over the world, and 2,000 scientific presentations were made. Being the host and organize this event is an acknowledgement of LSU sport science potential and internationality,” said Prof. A. Stasiulis.

If the ECSS entrusts Lithuanian Sports University with the task of organizing the Congress, it will take place in Lithuanian Exhibition and Congress Centre LITEXPO, the only venue in Lithuania meeting the requirements of the event. The initiative of the university is supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania, the National Olympic Committee of Lithuania, Department of Physical Education and Sports, the State Department of Tourism, Vilnius Tourist Information Office, Lithuanian Academy of Sciences, Lithuanian Union of Sports Federations and other organizations.

The congresses of European sport science, initiated by the European College of Sport Science, have been taking place since 1996. During the event, guest speakers and leading sports scientists and academics from all over the world present their research. Every year, the Congress is attended by 3,000 participants. So far, no ECSS Congress has taken place in the Baltic or Eastern  European countries.

Lithuanian Sports University is a member of the European College of Sport Science, an international organization that was founded in France in 1995. Its aim is to promote science and research, with a particular focus on interdisciplinary area of sport science and sports medicine.
