First Lithuanian Sports Gymnasium to be Established

   The next year, the door should open the country's first Sports Gymnasium. The Lithuanian Sports University (LSU) signed a Cooperation Agreement with Šiauliai Vijoliai Secondary School yesterday.

 

   ”We are delighted that the first sports gymnasium will finally launch its operations in the country. Under contractual obligations we commit to all forms of assistance in the development and the implementation of specialized training programs”, – said the rector of LSU, Prof. Habil. Dr. Albertas Skurvydas In addition, under this agreement, the University, together with the Šiauliai city municipality and other potential founders will participate in future reorganization of the school, the establishment of LSU Sports Gymnasium and further activities.

 

   The University commits to provide information about ongoing conferences, research and studies carried out in the realm of co-operation thus creating perfect conditions for school professionals to improve their qualification at the LSU.

 

   ”We strive to open more extensive opportunities for our students. Almost 10 years have been dedicated to the development of promising athletes, alongside with the possibility to combine the general education with sports. Currently the students being educated here are not only from Šiauliai region, but from Anykščiai, Klaipėda, Kėdainiai and other cities as well.  

 

   ”Our school offers eleven sports and the Lithuanian Sports University’s professional experience is extremely necessary in order to develop educational programs and to provide access to the best knowledge available. The status of gymnasium would ensure the continuity”, – claimed the Director of Vijoliai Secondary School Irma Abromaitienė.

 

   Under this agreement the school has assumed an obligation to provide information for the partners, to participate in the development and the implementation of specialized training programmes, to create conditions for LSU students to complete the programme of practical training in school, thus granting the University professionals to disseminate information about the LSU study programs, to participate in joint projects.

 

History of Vijoliai Secondary School.

   The School was founded and established as the 2nd Secondary Boarding School on February 15 in 1961. The students' dormitory at the school provided accommodation for boarding school students from Šiauliai and other neighboring regions. In 1989, the boarding-school was transformed to Šiauliai 2nd Secondary Boarding School and the School of Olympic Reserve. But, in 1990, the Olympic Reserve High School was closed. In 1992, the school faced reorganization and was split into two: Šiauliai Secondary School No. 22 and Child Care Home. In 1994, the school changed names and became Šiauliai Vijoliai Secondary School.

 

   School Vision – this is a Gymnasium of a sports structure providing primary, basic and secondary education for Lithuanian children skilled athletically, considering to study at the country's higher education institutions in pursuing a career of professional athletes, sports-related professionals.
