Best University athletes awarded

   Every year, Lithuanian Sports University (LSU) ranks and awards the best university athletes. LSU Sports and Leisure Centre has organized the celebration for several years in a row. The President of the National Olympic Committee of Lithuania Daina Gudzinevičiūtė congratulated the best university athletes this year. Festive atmosphere was created by the opera soloist Mindaugas Jankauskas and the accompanist Beata Vingraitė as well as LSU ensemble “Rasa”.

  “Lithuania has been an independent country for 25 years. Independence gave Lithuania a chance to participate in international life, and this gave our athletes an opportunity to represent our country in top-level competitions. Celebrating the 25th anniversary of Lithuania's independence we want to remember students, athletes and coaches, who glorified our Alma Mater and Lithuania, and honour the best LSU athletes, coaches and sponsors of 2014”, said the Head of LSU Sports and Leisure Centre Assoc. Prof. Dr. Česlovas Garbaliauskas.

  The best athlete of LSU 2014 was recognized a rower Donata Vištartaitė (coach Algirdas Arelis) for the second year in a row. Donata with her mate Milda Valčiukaitė came fourth in the World Championship this season; she came second in the World Cup round I and round III, and in European Championship won the silver medal. Achievements of an athlete discus thrower Andrius Gudžius also did not go unnoticed, as he became the second best athlete of 2014 at LSU. Ričardas Nekriošius, a kayak and canoe paddler came third.

   The best LSU team of 2014 became LSU girls’ basketball team (coaches Rasa Kreivytė and Kornelija Balčiūnaitė). LSU basketballers won 1st place In SELL Games, Lithuanian Students Basketball League and The National Women's Basketball League.
