Herlander Silva from Portugal, the University of Tras-os-Montes and the University of Alto Douro, visited the Lithuanian Sport University in the spring semester of 2002/2003 under then EU Socrates Mobility Programme (now “Erasmus+”). 22 years have not failed to bring back nice memories of the University, studies and of teachers and professors, and administrative staff. International Relations Office staff remembers as a very active, inquisitive, motivated and very much interested in handball. Not surprisingly, Herlander returned to Lithuania as a coach of the Lithuanian women’s national team.
It was a great pleasure to meet him and talk about his coaching work, his memories of studying at LSU, and his friendship with the Erasmus+ students from 2003. The International Relations staff recalls Herlander saying of his studies and time at the University: “Everybody who helped us – deserves SIX stars”. Herlander’s studies at LSU are a highly motivated and highly contagious example of how he has gained international experience and has used this experience very well in his professional life.
