The Parliament of Lithuania has confirmed the new title of our higher institution

The Parliament of Lithuania has approved to change the title Lithuanian Academy of Physical Education. By the resolution of the Parliament the former title will be renamed to Lihuanian Sports University. “The reforms that have been implemented recently received proper attention. Mokslo Scientific achievements, study programmes meet the requirements for the university. Our University is considered to be one of the best sports universities, it is the only sports university in Lithuania as well as the unique university in Baltic and Scandinavian countries. The decision made by the Lithuanian Parliament is of special importance and very satisfying, it encourages us to continue the reformation process“- claimed the Rector of LSU, prof. Albertas Skurvydas.

The sources of Lithuanian Sports University are traced to 1934 when the Higher Courses of Physical Education (HCPE) were set up offering a higher education degree in Lithuania During 78 years over 15 thousand specialists have been trained at Lithuanian Sports University: PE teachers, coaches, physiotherapists (32 sports coaches among them). Sportsmen and their coaches from LSU achieved the highest results in the Olympic Games, several hundred sportsmen are world and European champions and prize winners of the competitions. Scandinavian and other countries with high level of sports science adopt the University‘s sports coaching preparation system.

More than 90 percent of potential of Lithuanian sports, physical education, physiotherapy, health and physical activity, sports recreation science and studies is focused in the University. The research of the scientists in LSU receive worldwide recognition.
