The aspiring coaches from LSU studied at Charles University in Prague for one semester

Training Systems second-year students Arnas Andrijauskas, Augustas Baškys, and Mykolas Baliukas studied at Charles University in Prague during the autumn semester of this academic year through the Erasmus+ programme.

The study process in Prague was not very different from the academic procedures at the Lithuanian Sports University, so the young men adapted quickly. The aspiring coaches are very satisfied with the international experience they gained at Charles University: they acquired new knowledge, became familiar with different equipment and working methods, and brought back many new ideas they hope to apply in the future. In addition, according to Mykolas, it was a great opportunity to meet many warm, motivated people from different countries, with whom they formed friendly connections.

One of Mykolas’s boldest decisions was choosing the ice hockey module. “At the time, I could barely skate. I’m a sports fan, so I wanted to challenge myself. The first training sessions were difficult: I had to learn to keep my balance, control my speed, and understand the principles of the game. However, I trained with a positive group and experienced lecturers who truly knew their work and were able to clearly teach the fundamentals. Over time, the progress became obvious – not only did my technique improve, but my self-confidence grew stronger. This course showed me that being a beginner is not a weakness. It’s an opportunity to grow,” the student says.

For Augustas Baškys, one of the most memorable parts was the “Winter Course” module – entirely practical and held in the mountains. “There I had the chance to be not only an athlete, but also, as a student, to observe and analyse the methodology and coaching principles. It broadened my view toward more versatile athlete development,” Augustas recalls.

The LSU students who spent a semester studying in Prague are convinced that going abroad helps you appreciate your homeland, its culture, and the support of loved ones more. Moreover, the young men have no doubt that international experience fosters independence and confidence, helps you develop both personally and professionally, and they strongly recommend others to take part in the Erasmus+ programme.
