LSU basketball research data have been published in a prestigious scientific journal
Basketball research of recent years, which has been carried out by Lithuanian Sports University scientists, has attracted much interest in sports science journals. LSU scientists investigated marketing effectiveness in basketball clubs and leagues, financial benefit to sponsors, measurement of basketball players’ financial value and the effectiveness of basketball organizations. The greatest attention was paid to the research “Exploring Game Performance in the National Basketball Association Using Player Tracking Data”, carried out by Dr. Mindaugas Balčiūnas and his foreign colleagues. The study used a complex statistical analysis that revealed the game parameters determining the success of a leader and the way to build the best team. These results were published in an interdisciplinary scientific journal “PLOS One”, which could be called the most significant scientific achievement received by a publication on the topic of basketball, in preparation of which participated LSU scientists.
“PLOS ONE“ is a platform enabling the publication of original research, including interdisciplinary and replication studies. The scientific journal, which publishes all medicine-related research, has a high citation coefficient of 3.5.
“A year ago, LSU initiated and established a European Basketball Research Centre together with foreign partners. Joint work has been productive. Together with world-class basketball scientists – Jaime Sampaio from Portugal, Julio Calleja-González from Spain and others we have an opportunity to publish research results in the leading European and American scientific journals. Thus, let us not only increase the prestige of Lithuanian sports science, but also provide an opportunity for our students to participate in international research”, said one of the authors of the publication LSU Chancellor Dr. M. Balčiūnas.
