The Senate of the Lithuanian Sports University (LSU) has commenced its new term of office. At its first meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vidas Bružas was re-elected as Chair of the Senate for a second term. Prof. Dr. Romualdas Malinauskas was elected Vice-Chair of the Senate, while Vita Tamolienė was appointed Secretary of the Senate.
According to Senate Chair V. Bružas, the University’s immediate priorities will focus on strengthening the quality of studies, developing new study programmes, and updating existing ones.
“One of our most important goals is the renewal and expansion of study programmes. We will also strive to ensure that LSU offers new programmes that meet the contemporary needs of society and the labour market, while further enhancing existing programmes through increased digitalisation,” said V. Bružas.
Strengthening internationalisation has also been identified as one of the key priorities of the new term. LSU plans to expand cooperation with foreign universities, strengthen doctoral studies, become more actively involved in international academic alliances and research networks, and further develop its international partnerships.
Research and Experimental Development (R&D) remains another important area. According to the Chair of the Senate, the University will seek to strengthen its research fields, promote international research projects, and increase the visibility and competitiveness of LSU’s scientific activities in the international arena.
Artificial intelligence has been identified as one of the most significant challenges and priorities for the coming term. The University has already initiated discussions and activities related to the integration of artificial intelligence into study, research, and administrative processes.
“Artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming the higher education environment. Our goal is to find the right balance between the opportunities offered by these technologies and their responsible use, while ensuring academic integrity and maintaining the quality of studies,” noted V. Bružas.
According to the Chair of the Senate, some of these initiatives were already launched during the previous term, including the development of new study programmes, the renewal of research fields, and the initiation of processes related to the application of artificial intelligence. The new term will provide an opportunity to continue these efforts and achieve the University’s long-term development goals.
The LSU Senate is the highest academic governing body of the University, responsible for matters related to studies, research, and quality assurance. The Senate shapes the University’s academic directions, approves study and research programmes, considers strategic development issues, and submits recommendations to the University Council.
