LSU students team up the NBA game enthusiasts

Lithuanian Sports University (LSU) students have repeatedly suprised at an ambition to proclaim North American National Basketball Association (NBA). They have recently conducted a study on the marketing of the league; now “Žaidimų lyga” (“Gaming League”) has been established.  It organises online NBA game “NBA 2K15” tournaments for a PC and Playstation4 console holders. “Žaidimų lyga“ is expanding new partnerships and is going to cooperate with the Lithuanian Sports University. “I am convinced that sport, science and information technology are particularly related. Video games promote interest in the real game and physical activity”, said Edgaras Abromavičius, the director of  the public institution “Žaidimų lyga”.

A Lithuanian national basketball team player Mantas Kalnietis also participated in the contract signing ceremony. “This game is very realistic. To play the game, you must have a lot of knowledge in basketball tactics. Although basketball players usually play online football games, when I have free time, I'll try to play in the NBA”, said M. Kalnietis.

Six months ago, LSU students visited the NBA headquarters in London, and the managers of the league became interested in their knowledge. “The mission of the University is to reflect the latest trends and challenges in sports science. I am glad that the world's major organizations are interested in our students’ activities. We support their aspirations to find new niches for implementing ideas”, said LSU Chancellor Mindaugas Balčiūnas.

The online game “NBA 2K15“ is played by more than 30,000 people in Lithuania, and the number exceeds 5 million in the world. “NBA pays much attention to this game because they receive significant revenues from its licensing. Most importantly, scientific studies have shown that it encourages people to play basketball and be physically active”, said E. Abromavičius.
