Lithuanian higher education institutions have presented “Erasmus+” programme in Israel

At the beginning of May, the delegates from Lithuanian Sports University  Vice-Rector for Studies Rasa Jankauskienė, the director of the study programme Physical Activity and Public Health Vaiva Balčiūnienė, and the head of the International Relations Office Irena Čikotienė took part in a meeting organized by Education Exchanges Support Foundation, Lithuanian embassy in Israel and “Erasmus” National Head Office of Israel. Lithuanian higher education and “Erasmus+” programme were presented at the meeting, which was attended by 23 representatives from 9 Lithuanian higher education institutions. Lithuania is the first European Union country, which has presented its higher education in Israel.

The goal of the visit to Israel and the meeting was to introduce the opportunities of “Erasmus+” programme in new activities, i. e. partnership projects. This activity gives the universities the opportunity to cooperate and participate in the mobility programme with non-European Union countries since the autumn semester of 2015 and provides funding for student / teacher mobility. LSU has submitted an application to Erasmus + programme on student / teacher mobility in the academic year of 2015 / 2016 together with the Zinman College for Physical Education and Sports Sciences at the Wingate Institute, Israel. During the visit, the representatives of LSU went to see the Wingate Institute, met with the president and professors, discussed the possibilities of cooperation, and introduced LSU. The Wingate Institute has shown willingness to cooperate with LSU not only in the area of studies, but also in research. It is planned to start the cooperation in September, after adoption of teacher and student mobility project on receipt of the funds of “Erasmus+” programme.

LSU together with the delegation of other Lithuanian universities visited the Lithuanian embassy in Israel. During the meeting, the issues of future students’ visas and aid in cooperation with Israeli universities were discussed with the embassy staff.

Education Exchanges Support Foundation and “Erasmus” National Head Office of Israel organized a conference in Bar-Ilan University, which is the second biggest university in Israel.
