LSU physiotherapists helped the participants of “Citadele Kaunas Marathon 2019” to regain strength

LSU Physiotherapy teacher Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vilma Dudonienė together with the students of Physiotherapy study programme participated in one of the biggest events in Kaunas “Citadele Kaunas Marathon 2019” and performed muscular therapy for runners who finished marathon or half-marathon distances.

In addition, Lithuanian Sports University conducted research under the project of Erasmus + Sports Programme “Promoting Health Enhancing Physical Activity and Social Welfare through Outdoor Running Events/ RUN FOR HEALTH”. Prof. Dr. Irena Valantinė, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rasa Kreivytė and PhD student Kristina Mejerytė-Narkevičienė aimed to assess the social and economic impact of the event, as well as to look in depth at the participants’ experience in preparing for and participating in the marathon.

Marathon is the longest running distance of 42 km 195 m in track and field. During the event, the Athletic Federation of Lithuania also organized the Lithuanian half-marathon championship. Professionals and amateurs who ran 21.098 kilometres joined the most massive track and field event in the Lithuanian national championships.

More than 5,000 participants competed in the marathon, half-marathon, 10 km, 5 km distances as well as 1.5 km distance – Family Run and 400 m distance Children Run.
