Master students in Physical Education participate in an international scientific project

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Arūnas Emeljanovas and lecturer Brigita Miežienė, LSU, cooperate with a company “HOPSports” (the USA), the main objective of which is to promote a coherent, active and health-friendly lifestyle at home, at school and in the workplace. Three students of Physical Education Master study programme together with the delegates from other countries are participating in an international project “International HOPSports On-Line-Streaming Brain Breaks Comparative Pilot Study (OLSBBPS)” this year. The project with Prof. Ming-Kai Chin from “HOPSports” (the USA) and Prof. Magdalena Mok from the Hong Kong Institute of Education, acting as the scientific supervisors, links nine countries: Lithuania, Belgium, Croatia, Poland, South Africa, Romania, Singapore, Serbia and Turkey.

The project will seek to identify primary school students' attitude towards physical activity, motivation to be physically active, confidence in their physical abilities and the change in these factors through interactive intervention programme “HOPSports Brain Breaks” during school breaks. "HOPSports Brain Breaks” are unconventional physical activity classes during which students perform physical activities and develop movement; they last for 5-9 minutes and are accessed via the Internet. Such classes help to organize student activities during breaks and make the atmosphere livelier. Students also deepen their knowledge in the benefits of physical activity, health and other academic areas (mathematics, foreign language, nature, and culture of other countries).

“We are glad that we can contribute to the promotion of physical activity and offer students exciting activities that help to distract them from smart devices during the breaks; it is not only beneficial to health, but also expands the horizons of students”, said lecturer Brigita Miežienė.

“We have carried out a pilot study using interactive programmes developed by “HOPSports”, but now the project is becoming international as nine countries are participating in the project. We hope that more countries will join us in the future and we are very pleased that LSU students have the opportunity to participate in the project”, said the Dean of the Faculty of Sport Education Assoc. Prof. Dr. A. Emeljanovas.
