LSU students and teachers joined a blood donation campaign

LSU students and teachers benevolently joined the project “Kaunieti, būk dosnus!” (“Kaunas Resident, Be Generous!”) and took part in the campaign of blood donation for the newborn in Kaunas. 32 representatives of LSU completed donor questionnaires, and 26 of them donated blood.

“We are very glad that people deliberately and willingly agree to donate blood. Every day, medical institutions need it for newborns, children and adults”, said a resident doctor Asta Žukovienė, who came to LSU together with the Blood Centre team of Hospital of Lithuanian University of Health Sciences Kauno Klinikos. The majority of students participating in the campaign experienced this blood donation for the first time. “I am really afraid of blood, but I still want to help the babies. I am aware that there is lack of blood donors, so I made the commitment”, said Gintarė Žemaitytė, a first-year student of Physical Activity and Public Health study programme. Vakaris Mičiūnas, a Physiotherapy student, joined the campaign for the first time but intends to become a regular blood donor. Justina Kubelskaitė, an Adapted Physical Activity student, donated blood when she was in gymnasium; she thinks that the mission of a donor is very important, as she herself has experienced blood transfusion.

The University student from India Mohamed Arshadh said that during his visits to different countries he always joins such valuable initiatives.  LSU teachers Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sigitas Kamandulis and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gediminas Mamkus were glad to be able to help the people in need; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Biruta Švagždienė has been a blood donor for 36 years.
