Lecturer L.Purdy’s visit: interesting lectures and books for students

A visiting lecturer Dr. Laura Purdy is delivering interesting lectures to LSU students who are intensively writing final theses.

Dr. Laura Purdy works as a lecturer at the Department of Sport and Physical Activity, Edge Hill University (United Kingdom). She has taught at the University of Worcester, which is in close cooperation with LSU. Dr. L. Purdy, who comes from Canada, has visited our University before. In 2013, the lecturer participated in the discussion “Academic Culture: Western Experience”, which took place at LSU and conducted a scientific workshop “Considering the Climate of Elite / Professional Sporting Environments” during the International Teaching Week in 2015.

This time, Dr. Purdy not only developed specialized lectures for LSU students, but also gave valuable books “Understanding Sports Coaching”, “The Pedagogical, Social and Cultural Foundations of Coaching Practice” and “Qualitative Research Methods in Sport, Exercise and Health. From Process to Product”.

“These books should be of interest to students and give them broader insight into the training methods and physical activity. It is essential for students who are writing final theses to obtain new useful knowledge. I will add some information on qualitative research in the area of training during my lectures. I hope that both Bachelor and Master degree students will willingly share their ideas on possible further research topics “, said Dr. L. Purdy.

The Dean of the Faculty of Sport Biomedicine Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nerijus Masiulis is gratified to have Dr. L. Purdy at the University. “Almost 3 years ago, international experts spoke of the need to carry out qualitative research. I am glad that Dr. Laura Purdy, who has visited LSU three times, spares her time and helps us to successfully implement the goals set”, he said.
