The University of Sarajevo, located in the multicultural capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, surrounded by the four Olympic mountains, on June 17-21, 2024 held the 1st International Sport Staff Week, where LSU was represented by the associate professor of the Department of Physical and Social Education dr. Rita Gruodytė-Račienė. In the intensive and carefully selected activities also participated teachers, researchers and international relations administration staff from sports universities or their branches in Portugal, Turkey, Greece and Kosovo.
“During the stay, I was especially pleasantly surprised by the Lithuanian “Laba diena!” (“Good day!”) – this is how I was greeted by the local students, who studied at our university a few years ago under the exchange program. Another moment delighted me as a pedagogue was to vitness how the second-year students who assisted in the practical exercises of the non-traditional sport – Sport climbing – demonstrated their perfectly mastered skills in the application of protective measures, safeguarding independently both professionals and unskilled clients”, says Assoc. Dr. R. Gruodytė-Račienė.
The programme of this immensely hot week (the temperature outside was reaching 33-38 degrees of Celsius) took place not only at the university. Experts from various fields shared their insights on the integration of cultural industries and sports during the seminars held at the Olympic Museum and the House of Europe. For example, the presentation by architects Erna Husukić and Emina Zejnilović Zebić “Spaces of War, Memory and Imagination: Sarajevo 1984 Olympic Games” revealed a critical approach and perspectives in creating a peaceful world for present and future generations.
The organizers of the event were Prof. Dr. Slavenko Likić, Slobodan Klačar, Semir Mašič and others, fostering the bonds of interpersonal professional fellowship for many years of inter-institutional cooperation.
