LSU’s renewed visual identity – a dynamic university aspiring to win

The Lithuanian Sport University (LSU) starts its new academic year and the upcoming 90th anniversary since its foundation with a renewed visual identity. It was developed by the LSU in collaboration with Sons & Daughters, one of the best known and longest running design agencies in the country.

With its the renewed image, the Lithuanian University of Sport aims to carry on its traditions and to present itself to the public as a modern, specialised higher education institution that unites sport, physical activity, rehabilitation and management.

“We’re firm in our choices, we strive to excel in what we know best and where are most experienced. I have no doubt that with our renewed visual identity we will strengthen the University’s reputation. This is reflected not only in our reflection on today, but also in our vision towards the future. The University’s vision is to be a recognised leader in sport and health studies, science and innovation in the Baltic Sea Region. This is what we’re consistently striving for,” says Diana Rėklaitienė, Rector of Lithuanian Sports University.

One of the most important elements of the renewed LSU identity is its logo. The logo, which has been in use for more than a decade, now becomes more progressive and reflects the dynamic nature of the University. The logo encodes what is intrinsic to sport and wellness. The letter S in the LSU acronym stands for pressing on, moving upwards and forward. The dynamic S is a modern extension of the former LSU logo.

The Lithuanian Sports University also greets the new academic year with a new motto “Knowledge brings victory”. Success may bring unexpected victories, but knowledge brings true highest and lasting victories.

“Lithuanian Sports University is not just the only specialised higher education institution for sport and exercise studies and research in Lithuania, but also an unique institution in the Baltic region. Cooperation with the world’s leading universities in these fields gives us opportunities for continuous improvement. The University is ranked 123rd in the Shanghai Ranking of Sports Science Institutions, which is the best result achieved by any university in the country so far. We have no doubt that we’re professionals in the field of sport and exercise, offering the latest science-based knowledge,” says Dr. Rėklaitienė.

The renewed image of the Lithuanian Sports University also includes other important features. The axis of the LSU visual identity is a dynamic ornament inspired by muscle structure and expressing the idea that cooperation leads to the best results. The shapes of the ornament like body parts, members of the sports team or the university community form a strong unified network.

The LSU main colour is red. It is complemented by red and grey shades to add brightness, contrast and variety to the design.

This autumn the Lithuanian Sports University is celebrating its 90th anniversary. The origins of LSU lie in the Higher Courses of Physical Education founded in 1934. Over the past nine decades, the Lithuanian Sports University has trained over 20,000 sports coaches, physical education teachers, physiotherapists, sports managers, public health and other specialists in the fields of sport and exercise.
