The 75th NAFSA Annual International Conference & Expo in Washington DC

The representatives of the Lithuanian Sports University Irena Čikotienė and Tomas Kukenys from the International Relations Office attended the 75th NAFSA Annual International Conference & Expo in Washington DC (USA). The theme of this year’s conference was “Inspiring an Inclusive Future”.

NAFSA (Association of International Educators) Conference is one of the largest annual conferences and exhibitions in the world with a focus on international higher education. This global event brings together around 10,000 international educators from more than 100 countries. Together with the Study in Lithuania team who organised the Lithuania’s stand in the exhibition, this year Lithuanian higher education was represented by seven higher education institutions. The LSU representatives presented international study programmes, met with existing and new foreign partners and study agents, and took part in different sessions and workshops of the conference where speakers and participants shared innovative methods, strategies and good practices on how to promote and sustain internationalization at Universities.

Following the NAFSA conference, the LSU representatives visited one of the University’s partner institutions in the USA– Metropolitan State University of Denver. There they met with the University’s leadership team, colleagues from the Office of International Studies, and faculty members of the Department of Exercise and Sport Sciences. During the meetings, the discussions took place about future student and faculty exchanges and opportunities for scientific cooperation. The hosts also showed around the University Campus with its auditoriums, research laboratories and sports facilities.

The five colleges of Metropolitan State University of Denver have more than 17,000 students. Located in Denver close to the Rocky Mountains, this partner University runs more than 130 degree programmes. LSU collaborates with the University’s Department of Exercise and Sport Sciences, which offers undergraduate programmes in Exercise Science and Sport Management. The partner University maintains close connections with renowned local sports clubs, like the Nuggets (basketball), the Broncos (American football), the Rockies (baseball) and the Avalanches (ice hockey).
